See Something. Say Something: Having the Confidence to Compliment

Years ago when we moved into our first home, there was a neglected fountain in the backyard.

The reservoir had long run dry and was filled with rotting leaves and silt. We could hear the pump faintly humming when we turned it on, but the chances of water flowing through were zero.

Todd began to tinker with it and what he discovered wasn’t surprising: years of dirt, debris, and clogged leaves had choked its inner workings. The fountain was stuck. After a thorough disassembling, an unfortunate incident of Todd sucking in pond scum and a deep cleaning the transformation was remarkable. Water began to flow again, rising up, spilling over gracefully, and returning to the base in a continuous, beautiful flow. The well was full and working in a beautiful rhythm.

That fountain taught me something profound about life. How often do we feel like it—busy, overcommitted, and endlessly pouring out for others, only to find ourselves stuck, dry, and depleted?

If you’ve ever felt burned out, lacking energy, or disconnected from your purpose, it’s time to look inward. Is your own fountain flowing freely, or has it run dry, clogged up with the stuff of life?

When we feel good, life is good. There’s a powerful connection between our health in body, mind and soul. When our bodies are strong, we have the energy to serve others, which fills our spirits with joy. A clear mind helps us stay focused, while a nourished soul keeps us grounded and connected to our purpose. A perpetual fountain of life.

But too often, we live like cups, pouring out until we’re empty and never go back to the well for more. What if we shifted our perspective? Toss the cup that you keep forgetting to fill back up. Imagine yourself as a fountain—constantly drawing from the inner source of your faith in God, overflowing with abundance, and recapturing that joyous energy to sustain yourself and those around you.

The pump is the engine of the fountain, just like your physical health powers everything you do. If your body isn’t strong, it’s hard to show up for yourself or others. Are you nourishing your body with healthy food, staying active, and getting the rest you need? Strength in your body gives you the stamina to live fully and love generously.

Over time, unresolved stress, negativity, and limiting beliefs can clog our minds, preventing us from functioning at our best. What mental debris is weighing you down? It could be self-doubt, fear of failure, or emotional baggage. Just like in our homes, we need to take out the mental trash on a daily basis. I love giving God the first fruits of my morning to take out the trash and renew my mind with good things. For me, an active daily prayer walk allows me to be removed from the distractions of my to-do list and to set the expectation for a winning day.

A fountain can’t flow if the water isn’t recirculating. The same is true for your spirit. You can’t keep pouring out without replenishing yourself. How are you feeding your soul? Are you speaking God’s language? His word is the sword of the spirit and we can’t communicate with God unless we’re using the same lingo. By spending time getting to know God every day and soaking in His Word, we start building a solid foundation of inner strength. Soul-care is not selfish; it’s essential for living a life of overflow and abundance.

As the holiday season is in full swing, it’s easy to slip into burnout—overcommitting, overspending, and overextending ourselves. But a fountain in constant overflow doesn’t need to run dry if it operates in balance.

Take a moment to ask yourself: Are you living in overflow, or are you running on fumes? The difference lies in how well you’re caring for your body, mind, and soul. By tending to all three, you create a fountain of abundance—not just for yourself, but for everyone you touch.

Your Next Step: Reclaim the Flow

You don’t have to wait until you’re completely burned out to reclaim your inner fountain. Start small:

  • Move your body today, even if it’s just a 10-minute walk.
  • Write down one thing that’s draining your energy and commit to addressing it.
  • Spend five minutes in reflection or prayer to nourish your spirit.

You were created to live in overflow, not exhaustion. A thriving fountain can expand its reach, touching others with its beauty and abundance. Let’s do the same with our lives.
