Struggling with Confidence? This Simple Shift Will Change Everything

Everything changed one morning in the predawn hours.

If I were to narrow down my success over the last six years to one habit, it would most definitely be developing a morning routine. Before this habit, my nights were filled with restless sleep. I’d go to bed anxious, worried about the next day, overwhelmed by everything on my to-do list. I had a general idea of what needed to be done, but I lacked a clear plan, and that lack of clarity kept me stuck in a cycle of stress and uncertainty.

Everything changed one morning in the predawn hours. I couldn’t sleep, so I made my way to the living room, knees pulled to my chest, feeling the weight of my anxious thoughts. At 4 a.m., like clockwork, my husband came out to make his coffee. He sat in his chair, opened his Bible, and began taking notes—a habit he had practiced every single morning for as long as I could remember. Watching him, I was struck by how stable, consistent, and emotionally grounded he was. His presence had always been an anchor to my chaos.

I wanted what he was having and that morning, I had a thought that challenged me to the core: What if I followed in his footsteps? What if I developed consistency first thing in the morning and created a behavior that would bring results? What if I gave God the best parts of me—the first fruits of my day?

That one action—getting up at 4 a.m. and developing a morning rhythm—started to bring order and discipline into my days. On the other side of that discipline I began to feel the stirrings of sweet freedom from anxiety. It wasn’t just about the quiet time or the reflection; it was about the consistent time with God and my thoughts. That small, intentional action taken daily grew my confidence, reduced my anxiety, and yielded exponential results. Over time, it changed my life.

Confidence isn’t something you stumble upon; it’s something you build. It grows through trust—trust in yourself and trust in God. And trust is built through consistency. When you commit to small, daily actions, you prove to yourself that you’re capable, dependable, and resilient. Over time, those small actions compound, creating momentum that transforms your life.

Consistency isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up. Even on the days when you feel tired, discouraged, or overwhelmed, consistency reminds you of the bigger picture. It’s the key to turning chaos into calm, anxiety into confidence, and potential into purpose.

Let’s explore three steps to building confidence through consistency and how small, daily actions can lead to exponential results.

Transformation begins with one decision, one step. Choose a small, manageable action you can commit to daily. For me, it was waking up at 4 a.m. to spend quiet time with God. For you, it might be journaling for five minutes, going for a 10-minute walk, or setting aside time for prayer. The key is to choose something meaningful and stick with it. Small actions, done consistently, create big change over time.

Your mornings set the tone for your entire day. Establishing a morning rhythm allows you to start your day with clarity, intention, and peace. Think about what your ideal morning looks like. Maybe it includes reading scripture, writing down your priorities, or simply sitting in stillness. A consistent morning routine not only reduces anxiety but also builds the confidence and energy you need to tackle the day ahead.

Confidence grows when you acknowledge your wins. Take time each week to reflect on how your consistent actions are making a difference. Ask yourself:

  • What promises did I keep to myself this week?
  • How have I grown?
  • What small victories can I celebrate?

Celebrating progress, no matter how small, reinforces the habit and motivates you to keep going. Remember, consistency is a journey, and every step forward matters.

Continue with your one small action for 90 days. Make it your primary focus. Once you have that down, begin to build on it with other behaviors in your life that you want to bring into order. These small victories will start building on each other until you look back and notice some serious transformation in your life. Confidence looks pretty amazing on you, my friend!
